GPS wordt standaard in kleine Windows 7 notebooks

Nu Windows 7 ingebouwde GPS-modules ondersteunt, zal de integratie van GPS-chips in notebooks volgend jaar een grote vlucht nemen. Dat is tenminste de verwachting van ic-distributeurs in Taiwan, meldt Digitimes. Zo heeft Microsoft onlangs 1000 flashdrives met ingebouwde GPS-chip bij het Zwitserse bedrijf U-blox AG besteld.

Nu Windows 7 ingebouwde GPS-modules ondersteunt, zal de integratie van GPS-chips in notebooks volgend jaar een grote vlucht nemen.

Dat is tenminste de verwachting van ic-distributeurs in Taiwan, meldt Digitimes. Zo heeft Microsoft onlangs 1000 flashdrives met ingebouwde GPS-chip bij het Zwitserse bedrijf U-blox AG besteld. Dit ter ondersteuning van softwareontwikkelaars voor het ontwikkelen van gps-toepassingen.

U-blox werkt samen met diverse Taiwanese ic-distributeurs voor het ontwikkelen van een gps-platform voor Windows 7, dat in notebooks kan worden ingebouwd. De markt voor notebooks met geïntegreerde GPS-voorziening gaat in 2010 van start met notebooks tot 13-inch als eerste. Verwacht wordt dat GPS een standaardfunctie in kleine notebooks zal worden.
